Privacy & security

PRIVACY, IN PLAIN ENGLISH

Your library.
Your peace of mind.

A premium experience should be clear about trust. Here is how the native apps sign in, protect credentials and connect to your media.

01

Your password stays with Plex.

Authorize Xelp on Plex’s own sign-in page. Xelp receives a session token rather than collecting your Plex password.

02

Protected sign-in on your device.

Apple apps keep the saved session in Keychain. Android encrypts its credential file with a key held in Android Keystore and excludes app data from backups.

03

Secure server connections.

Native server discovery selects HTTPS connections. Your Plex server remains responsible for the media and for who can access its libraries.

Plex authorizes. Your device remembers.

There is no separate Xelp account to create. Use your own Plex account, including when a friend or family member shares a library with you.

  1. You authorize on Plex.

Xelp opens Plex’s authorization page or shows its TV sign-in QR code. Your password is entered on Plex.

  2. Xelp receives your session.

The native app protects the saved sign-in using Apple Keychain or encrypted storage backed by Android Keystore.

  3. Plex decides your access.

Only reachable servers and eligible profiles available to that account can be selected. Plex Home authorization and PIN checks still apply.

Library artwork, metadata and preferences also use ordinary app-private caches. Protected credential storage does not mean every cached item is encrypted.

Questions
Why use Xelp if I already have Plex?

Xelp gives your existing Plex movie and series libraries a separate, premium viewing interface. It focuses on cinematic browsing, clear navigation and detailed playback controls. Plex Media Server continues to organize and serve your media; Xelp is an independent client, not a replacement server or an official Plex app.

Does Xelp include Live TV, DVR, music or Plex’s streaming catalog?

No. The current apps focus on personal movie and series libraries, including libraries shared with your Plex account. They do not include channel guides, DVR controls, music or photo libraries, or destinations for Plex’s free streaming catalog and rentals.

Does Xelp bypass Plex subscriptions or access permissions?

No. Xelp does not grant library access or include a Plex subscription. Each viewer must use an authorized Plex account, and the applicable Plex service, server and playback requirements still apply. Xelp is free; the Apple apps are awaiting App Review.

What is Xelp, and what do I need to use it?

Xelp is an independent native player for your Plex library, with apps in development for Apple and Android. You need a Plex account and access to a Plex Media Server that is online and reachable. Xelp connects directly to Plex; ordinary use does not require a companion app or a USB connection. Applicable Plex playback entitlements still apply.

Does Xelp include movies or TV shows?

No. Xelp plays media from libraries you own or have permission to access. This website shows genuine native app screens, with sample media or participants where labeled. Those examples are not a streaming catalog.

How much can I change subtitles?

Supported text captions have controls for size, font, color, opacity, background, edges and timing. Position offers Bottom, Middle and Top, plus a separate Height adjustment from 5% to 95%. You can add a second text track with independent timing. Authored ASS styling is preserved unless you override it; bitmap tracks keep their artwork. Supported captions render on-device without video burn-in. File import is available on phones, tablets and Mac, and voice auto-sync requires an eligible external SRT track and Plex voice analysis.

Do progress, track selections and lists stay in Plex?

Xelp reports viewing progress, watched state, personal ratings and primary track choices back to Plex. Eligible full accounts can create and edit private Plex cloud Lists containing movies and series. Shared lists are read-only in Xelp, and managed or guest profiles cannot access the owner’s account Lists. A secondary subtitle choice stays separate from Plex’s saved primary track.

Can Apple and Android viewers watch together?

Yes. The native apps implement invitations, readiness, shared play, pause and seeking, late joining and reconnection. Each viewer needs their own library access and any required playback entitlement. Volume, subtitles, audio output and quality remain personal. Rooms depend on Plex’s room service, which Plex can change or retire. This version does not include voice chat, SharePlay, push notifications or automatic multi-episode parties.

Does it support 4K, HDR10+ and surround sound?

Compatible 4K playback, device-aware playback selection and audio-output controls are implemented. Direct Play uses the original file, Direct Stream repackages compatible streams, and Plex can convert when needed. Actual HDR and surround delivery depend on the file, device, display, receiver and playback path. HDR10+ output has not been verified across platforms, so it is not promised as a universal capability.

Where can I download Xelp, and what does it cost?

Xelp is free. The iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac apps have been submitted to Apple and are awaiting App Review. Public download links will be added when available. Android apps remain in development.

Is Xelp made by Plex?

No. Xelp is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Plex, Inc. It connects to Plex services and your accessible media libraries. Plex is a trademark of Plex, Inc.
